What does Aarogya Setu app do?

Aarogya Setu, a mobile app developed by the Ministry of Electronics and IT to help citizens identify the risk of contracting COVID-19 (coronavirus), has received over 10 million downloads since its launch five days ago.

The app is designed to alert the user when crossing paths with his / her positive test. Tracking is done via Bluetooth & Location Generated Social Graph where you can show your interactions with those who tested positive.

After installing the app, you need to turn on Bluetooth (always recommended to turn on) and location. Then set 'Location Sharing' to 'Always' (you can change it at any time).

It has a tool for self-checking. The user is asked to answer any questions. If some answers indicate COVID signs, the information is sent to a government server. Data helps to take timely action and initiate isolation procedures if needed.

If someone comes to you unexpectedly and tests positive, you are warned. There are app alerts along with instructions on how to integrate yourself and what to do if you develop features.

Data is only shared with the government. The app does not allow you to publicly disclose your name and number.

The steps required to use the app are:
1. After you run the app, allow your device to access the location as needed.
2. You get the OTP, enter it and you're on.
3. Choose your gender from the options provided.
4. Enter your full name, then age, and then the profession as requested.
5. You will be asked about your travel history over the last 30 days. Give an appropriate answer. If your travel history overseas, the ICMR database will help with the tested positives.

The app asks you if you are ready to volunteer when needed. Suppose you answered yes, yes, a validation test of 20 seconds begins.

After installing the setup on your phone, it will find other smartphones nearby where the app is installed. If one of these contacts is positive, the risk of infection is determined based on the most advanced parameters.

The basis of this calculation - which is done using Bluetooth, algorithms, and artificial intelligence - is to enable the smartphone user to interact with others.

Govt has regulated a must download of this application for the safety of the others. This app can safeguard and track each and every data.

How safe is this app?
Govt has claimed this app is highly secured but a hacker from Bengaluru has hacked the application within 4 hours of the declaration. In response, the govt has issued a statement that they are working further in its security and functionality.

Let's hope for the best. Cheers!

In case you haven't downloaded the app:
